Sunshine Café
Twickenham Rugby Football Club, South Road, Hampton. TW12 3PE
Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm (Twins Club meets here first Monday of the month at 10am)

This lovely playgroup is suitable for all ages and a perfect venue for multiples. There is a ramp up to the entrance so no need to negotiate any steps and the door is wide enough for double buggies, which can be parked in the entrance hall. Once inside everything is in one room making it very easy to keep an eye on the little ones playing whilst still being able to sit and have a chat over a drink. As well as being suitable for toddlers (crawling and walking) there is also a lovely baby area surrounded by rather comfortable chairs to protect them from the older ones.
They serve hot and cold drinks as well as tasty snacks and there is also plenty of space to be able to stay for lunch should you wish to do so.
Parking is also terrific with plenty of space in a private car park right outside and for those on public transport the R70 bus takes you right there.

Twickenham Twins Club Playgroup

The hall is a good size and has an excellent range of toys as well as a bouncy castle. They have a café where you can purchase drinks, snacks and light meals. A healthy snack for the kids who are over 1 is included in the cost. There is on-site free parking, it is 5-10 minutes walk from Whitton Station and the 110, H22 and 481 buses stop right outside. For over 1’s it will cost £3.00 per family for members and £4.00 per family for non-members and for under 1’s it is £1 for members and £2 for non-members.

Spelthorne Gymnastics Stay and Play
College Way, Ashford TW15
Mondays and Thursdays – 9.30-2:15pm
Price: £5.00 for the 1st child and £3.00 for each sibling. Babies under 9 months are free when accompanying a paying toddler.

This is a fabulous drop in stay and play where unless it is very busy (which is rare) you can stay as long as you like. They have the usual soft play items such as bouncy castles, ride-on’s etc. however what makes this unique and special is that the children are allowed to play on the gym equipment including trampolines, balance beams, gym balls, and rings. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to familiarize themselves with the gym environment and develop coordination skills. The whole of the floor is sprung making it the perfect place to take those first steps and it also works well if you have a mixture of baby and toddler. Finally there is a very good café where you can purchase snacks or lunch. The only downside is that parking is 5 minutes walk away. It is a free private car park but until you have confident walkers you will need to push them in the buggy from the car park to the venue. The venue is 5-10 minutes walk from Ashford train station, which has step free access. This venue does offer on Tues/Weds/Fri pre-school gym classes.

St Philip & James Parish Hall, Vicarage Road, Whitton. TW2 7DY
Mondays and Fridays (during term time) 09.30-11.30am

This is the most delightful playgroup, probably most suited to those up to 3 years old. It has a good choice of toys, a baby corner and a small bouncy castle. They usually have out at least one craft/art table. They also include in the entry fee snacks for the little ones and tea/coffee/biscuits for the adults. The people who run it and generally those who attend are so warm and friendly.

Redlees One O Clock Club
Redlees Play Centre, Worton Road, Isleworth, TW7 6DW
This fabulous play centre is open Mondays to Fridays from 1-4pm (3pm on a Friday) and costs £2.50 per adult (children are free).

Indoors it has a soft play area, arts & crafts programme and for those with babies under 1 we highly recommend the baby sensory room. Outside it really comes into its own. It has a very large, safe, enclosed garden area with sand and water play, swings, trampoline, an incredible tree house, bikes, scooters, playhouse plus much more. Don’t just save this one for the summer as long as it’s dry outside there are hours of fun to be had.

Etna Playgroup
ETNA Community Centre 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham, TW1 2AR
Monday’s 1:30-3:15
Drop In Fee – £5 per family or £35 for a 10 session pass.

This playgroup is set up in the ETNA centre just off the St Margarets Road in East Twickenham. The large hall is a great space for children of all ages but is particularly good for smaller children as there is a dedicated baby section with loads of sensory toys. It’s ideal for new crawlers and toddlers. There are also great activities for your bigger twins including a craft table and a playdough table. At the end of the session there is even ‘Marc the music man’ who does a sing along for the children. The centre is easily accessible for a double buggy the only thing to be aware of is that it is expected that you help out to both set up and clear up at the end of the session. Though I found that once people saw me juggling twins they didn’t expect me to do too much. Refreshments are included in the entry cost. Parking on the local streets is free or many busses run from Isleworth/St Margarets, Twickenham and Richmond to very nearby.

Additionally your little ones will come away having learnt some things about nature. There is plenty of parking in Marble Hill Park and there is a lovely café (and toilets!) in the middle of the park to grab a snack before or afterwards.

Heathfields Childrens Centre – Little Explorers
Heathfield Children’s Centre, Powder Mill Lane, Whitton, TW2 6EX
Cost – Free

Claire Madden is a big fan of Heathfield Children’s Centre. She had been struggling to visit the stay and play with her boisterous pair but was invited by the Centre Manager to join their Tuesday Little Explorers group which is a smaller and therefore much more manageable session. The staff at the Centre are kind, considerate and very understanding of the challenges you may face with multiples. Claire says that ‘attending Little Explorers has really improved my confidence at managing the two of them together and we too have attended the Cooking on a Budget session and Singing Hands (I think this is invitation only like Little Explorers). The Centre is so pivotal to the community in my opinion and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone with or without multiples.’

Frankie & Flo’s
St Mary’s Parish Hall, Langham Road, Teddington TW11 9HF
Cost – £4.50 for families with children over 1
£2.50 per family for under 1’s and under 3 months are free.

This is a wonderful soft play café highly recommended by Shirine Mahawish. It’s suitable for babies and children up to the age of 5. The staff are really lovely, incredibly welcoming and they fully understand the challenges of twins as one of the owners is a twin mum herself.  It’s suitable for all ages. There is a bumps and babies corner, plenty of cars to scuttle in and a bouncy castle to wear out the kids. There are always plenty of toys for everyone even on very busy days. We host a Thursday afternoon session there on the third Thursday of every month. Next one is on the 24th November, do come along and try it out.
