Twins of the Month: Albie and Tuesday

This month we meet twins Albie and Tuesday Lord

Twins Names: Albie and Tuesday

Age: 21 months

Birthday: 24th March 2016

Identical or fraternal: Fraternal (it’s surprising how many strangers still ask if they’re identical)

Favourite activity: Feeding the dog, splashing- bath or puddles (we’re not fussy), shouting, running, reading and snacking.

A bit about mum: I’m Alex, 29, married to Adam, and have a Pug called Brodie. We moved back to the area in Summer after spending 18 months in Lancashire where we’re both from. Possibly the only people to move to London after having kids but we just missed it too much! I’m a Primary school teacher and this September went back to teach Reception/Y1 once a week for PPA cover- it’s quite liberating walking to the shop without children on my lunch break!

Car: Nissan Juke- in hindsight a terrible choice.

Help or not? My mum helped a lot for the first year when we were living Up North, as she was only 20 minutes away, but it’s just us now we’ve moved.

Quick tip for other twin/triplet mums: Tesco offer a free piece of fruit for children while you’re shopping- even in the little stores! Honestly I’ve never been so grateful to see an apple. And try to leave the house every day, even if it’s just for a quick walk. Sometimes it can really make all the difference to your day.

What advice would you give to your pre-pregnant self? Be kinder to yourself. It took me a bit longer to bond with one of the twins, and I really beat myself up about it thinking I was a terrible mother. I was too scared and hormonal to tell anyone in case they judged me, but would have loved someone to tell me that’s okay!

What advice would you give about sleep training? We got into a routine from the day we came home, and I think that was essential for some kind of sanity. We woke them at the same time for feeds and in the morning. But ultimately, The Boy still won’t sleep through the night so I’m still searching for the answer!

What advice would you give about breast/bottle feeding? Do what works for you without feeling pressured to do “what’s best.” We tried breast feeding for about two weeks and Albie was so jaundiced that he kept falling asleep and not taking any, Tuesday couldn’t get the hang of latching, so I switched to formula using the TT perfect prep machine and it was a huuuuge relief for us all!

Do you have any advice on weaning? Batch cooking was great and much cheaper than the pouches. I think we added a couple of new flavours in every week and did some BLW alongside purees. They enjoy most foods now and are generally good eaters, but we do still sometimes have a week where someone will only eat yoghurt.

Do you have any advice on potty training? We haven’t started yet but I’m mentally preparing to try after Christmas…

Best bargain? The TAMBA discount at Mothercare was great during their sale! We got everything from there when I was pregnant.

Best thing about having twins? They’ve always got each other. I’m an only child and always wanted a brother or sister when I was little.

Funniest thing the twins have done? They’re always doing ridiculous things but I especially love it when they share a private joke and just crack up laughing at each other for ages. You can’t help but laugh along with them!

I love Twickenham Twins Club because…..It’s such a fantastic and welcoming support network- people’s advice has been amazing and we all look forward to Wednesdays at Jigsaw. Thank you!
