Twins of the Month: Amelie & Elliot

This month we meet Alice Moore’s twins, Amelie & Elliot…

Twins’ Names? Amelie and Elliot

Age? 18 months (in Nov)

Birthday? 28.5.13

Identical or Fraternal? Fraternal

Favourite activity? They’ve just discovered play dough and really enjoy stabbing it with their forks. Also love the swings and slide at the playground and soft play!

A bit about Mum and Dad… Mum is a freelance art director/book cover designer
Dad is deputy head at a prep school in Guildford.

Buggy? Mountain buggy for day to day, it’s also great on rough terrain. We also have a lightweight Silver Cross fold-up pram for holidays and day trips which lives in the car.

Car? VW Touran

Help or not? 12 hours a week from 4 months increased to 18 hours now I’m freelancing from home.

Quick tip for other twin/triplet mums? Get as much help as you can for the first three months, I just relied on family and it was too stressful because there were too may opinions and emotions flying around. If I did it again I would get paid help!!

What advice would you give your pre-twins/triplets (pregnant) self? Get as much sleep as you can and enjoy the serenity!

What advice would you give about sleep training? Establish a bed time routine as early as you can, Amelie and Elliot love it and find it really comforting. They didn’t sleep through until around 10 months because I couldn’t leave them to cry but I have slowly toughened up and now they are generally good sleepers.

What advice would you give about breast/bottle feeding? I couldn’t breast feed so the twins were bottle fed. It meant my husband or someone else could help with the feeding. When I was alone I would often prop them up or put them in their car seats and feed them simultaneously, at night I would wake one up after the other. They were premature and bottle feeding meant that I could see exactly how much they were taking each feed.

Do you have any advice on weaning? We started at 6 months on baby rice and they both enjoyed it then we gradually brought in different foods. We let them guide us at first. It was lots of fun and they loved sitting at the table with us.

Best bargain? The Mountain Buggy which I got from a friend for next to nothing!

Best thing about having twins? They have each other and even though they are completely different, they are great friends.

Funniest thing the twins have done? There have been so many funny moments but I love it when they are in the bath and splash each other so much we all get wet. They find it hilarious and start giggling!

I love Twickenham Twins’ Club because…it has allowed me to meet other twin mums and share all the joys and frustrations of having two babies at once. It has been great to get advice from the mums with older twins too.
